It’s no secret that Malaysians love food—we’re known to be eating from morning ’til the wee hours of the night, and there’s nothing that restricts our dining habits (yes, nasi lemak is our breakfast, lunch and dinner). Beyond the local favourites, however, are the friendly neighbourhood restaurants that thrive to give their best to the surrounding communities. Section 17 in Petaling Jaya is no Golden Triangle; there are no LRT stations that conveniently stop here and no one-stop shopping malls for the active shopper. A few kopitiam and mamak are scattered around, but more recently the neighbourhood has become prey to enterprising restaurateurs who have set up shop here and redefine the area as a quality food hub. There is variety in not only the type of cuisine offered here, but in price range as well. The restaurants seek to provide a different kind of experience to diners—from modern, avant garde fare to quaint cafes specialised in pies or breads, you may just find a new go-to place for brunch or dinner.
